         Hi! My name is Susan Jiayang Liao 廖嘉楊. I am a Business Analyst in the Cross-Divisional Strategic Execution (XDIV) department, under Executive Office at Goldman Sachs, Hong Kong SAR. I graduated from the University of Hong Kong, majoring in Financial Technology (FinTech) and double major in Computer Science. I am interested in Project Management, and Business Workflow Management broadly.

         My UG final year project investigates software development of privacy-preserving wallet, supporting both audibility and financial data encryption using a centralized database. During my undergraduate study, I mainly worked with Dr. Chow Kam Pui in HKU Standard Chartered Foundation FinTech Academy(HKU-SCF FinTech Academy ). I also worked with Prof. Jian-feng Yao from Statistics Department of HKU, on data science related topics.

         Apart from career interests, I also enjoy ballet, playing Guzheng, and cooking. One of my life goals is to live along a lake, planting and cooking with my family, though it may take a long time to enter the stage :D

  • Project Title: User Acceptability and Privacy Issues for Digital Currency in Hong Kong – A Pilot Study [Project Report].
  • Processed literature reviews in 10+ Central bank Digital Currency (CBDC) reports in 3 stages from 2010-2021.
  • Conducted regulatory studies in data privacy among 4 regions, Mainland China, HKSAR, EU, US.
  • Launched 10+ focus group discussions and surveyed on payment preference among 200+ HKU students.
  • Applied NLP in mass data collection and manipulation to analyze key factors of payment choices, forecast the prospects and resistance of CBDC in the retail industry.
  • Devised the technical analysis of survey result and produced project report.
  • Research output was presented to HKU-SCF FinTech Academy and FinTech Facilitation Office in HKMA in late June, 2021.

Research Assistant

   PI: Prof. Jian-feng Yao, Statistics Department, HKU

  • Project Title: Binary Data Prediction for weather forecasting in Southern China. [Project Report].
  • Conducted Exploratory Data Analysis(EDA) on 150,000 sets of meteorological data in 26 cities in China for past 10 years.
  • Devised data analysis model for binary responses by SVM, Logistic Regression, RandomForest and Decision Tree.
  • Processed data conversion & mining, credit scoring, and data virtualization in Python
  • Research output was recognized as outstanding student project in data analytics division.
